I’ve been following the contest, the subsequent flurry of follow-up posts, wiki entries, detailed how-tos, and even found a generous soul who hosted custom install disk image that got rid of half of the install headache, and the only conclusion that I keep coming to is that this isnt for me. I more than understand the geek need to see if something can be done, but from a practical perspective, this makes no sense.
I have had a dual boot machine before (windows & linux), and to say I rarely switched is an understatement. So with this new Macbookpro which I have just received, and which is quickly becoming my primary machine, the thought of having to logout of my primary work environment to reboot into windows goes way beyond simple annoyance and frustration. I need both winxp and macosx running simultaneously to really do my work.
My bottom line is I opted out of this setup, and am really and truly hoping the darwine project takes off and succeeds because I would much rather have my needed winxp apps operate in a transparent layer in osx, than have to quit all my apps and close all my active documents in one to get to the other.
All that being said, this is still very cool.
