12/24/2021
This Week's New Releases
A few more end of year house/electronic compilations that I love because they really are time capsule snapshots of a particular sound or theme.
Individual Release Spotify Links
- Groove Armada – Full Crate EP {electronic, house}
- Café Del Mar XXVII (Volumen Veintisiete) {downtempo, electronic} Café Del Mar can do no wrong but the main series always nails it and brings me back to Ibiza.
- Animal Collective – Live at Music Box Village {electronic} Not available on Spotify
- Kyoto Jazz Massive – Message From A New Dawn {electronic, jazz, fusion}
- The KVB – Unity {electronic, shoegaze, new wave} This came out two weeks ago but since I only heard about it, it counts. Quick scan brought up feelings of Stereolab
- Birdy – Earth: Capricorn’s Songs {folk, indie pop}
- Plastic City FX – So Deep, Vol. 2 {deep house, dub techno}
- Winter Chill 2022 {deep house, nu disco}
- Bedrock Collection 2021 {electronic, melodic house} Bedrock Records is Nick Muir and John Digweed’s imprint
- Gaudi – Sub Signals Vol.2 {dub, downbeat, chillout}
- Lucinda Williams – You Are Cordially Invited… A Tribute To The Rolling Stones {rock} Not available on Spotify
- Nas – Magic {hip hop}

The annual wrap-up electronic/house compilations are always such great snapshots that I find myself going back to them over the coming months.
- Eli & Fur – Found In The Wild (Remixed) {deep house, electronic} Collection of remixes of one of my favorite albums of the year. This was great but the originals are still the winners for me
- Nick Murphy & The Program – Take In The Roses {rock, alternative, indie} Nick Murphy, fka Chet Faker, put out a really great record loaded with depth and emotion
- Anjunadeep The Yearbook 2021 {deep house, electronic}
- Worst Party Ever – Dartland {indie rock, emo} Great jangly fuzzy Northwestern sound rock.
- Above & Beyond – 10 Years of Group Therapy {electronic, house}
- Anjunabeats The Yearbook 2021 {progressive house}
- Ministry of Sound: The Annual 2022 {electronic, house}
- Johnny Marr – Fever Dreams Pt. 2 {rock, alternative rock} Yes, that Johnny Marr put out a record and it’s solid brit-rock

MUSIC:reflections, is mostly new music releases that I am tracking for myself and figured I’d share.
General disclaimer about new releases:
- This is an informed curated pull and, like life, there are no guarantees. There may be some duds, some meh and hopefully some gems that are real keepers that bring you joy.
- This is pulled from artists I know and love, to artists I’ve heard good things about and want to check out their newest output.
- They roughly in stack ranked order from must list immediately to want to get to.
- Not everything in here is for everybody, hell, not everything in here will end up being for me. This is about exploration, getting outside of our bubbles, and ultimately about discovery.
I’ll post on Fridays with an aggregated playlist, roughly in the order I want to listen to them – from first listen to last. I work through it over the coming week, then rinse and repeat.
Bottom line: YMMV
